OK. I just discovered y’all on YouTube and I love you guys … but you really lost me with the 5 Westerns segment. With the exception of Shane and True Grit the other 3 movies aren’t really Westerns. They are just movies that just use the old west as a backdrop for stories that really belong in other genres. I’m not going to argue whether or not they’re good or bad films … they’re just not Westerns. If you sincerely want to get into Westerns you need to watch films like … “My Darling Clementine”, “High Noon”, “The Searchers”, “Rio Bravo”… Watch all the Leone Spaghetti westerns … and you must watch them on a big screen if you want the full effect. On a laptop viewed while multitasking you’d really miss out on the experience. (Eli Wallach as Tuco in “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” is one of the most wonderfully comic and poignant characters in movies of all time. ) “The Wild Bunch”, “Silverado” and “Lonesome Dove” series need mentioning as well. The Western movie is not just about set decoration. A films like “Way of the Gun” and “Extreme Prejudice” are much more Western than, say, films like, “Young Guns” or “Posse.” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” is not a western. It is a nice adventure movie and one of the first movies to employ the old west just as set decoration for a typical 70’s buddy/road picture. That movie still gets a lot of heat for that from aficionados of true Westerns, but I still like it because I think the filmmakers were just having fun putting modern characters into a western setting. I might sound like a Western movie snob but I actually like all genres of films. Omar, if you are a true film buff you have to get into the Westerns.
