Gamepiece Cupcakes Recipe (TableTop Day!)

Celebrate International TableTop Day with gamepiece cupcakes! From episode 10 of “Maybe Wil Wheaton Will Show Up.”

  • Cake mix (or your favorite cupcake recipe!)
  • Things on the back of the cake mix box (usually vegetable oil and eggs)
  • Frosting
  • Food coloring
  • Extra game pieces (or dice, scrabble tiles, any type of game piece you won’t be using on Tabletop Day!)

  1. Make the cupcakes by following the directions on the back of the box.
  2. In separate bowls, mix food coloring in with your frosting with however many colors you like.
  3. Use a sandwich bag as a cheap piping set by putting frosting into the bag, then cutting off a corner, and squeezing onto the cupcake.
  4. WASH your gamepieces (don’t be gross, people).
  5. Place a gamepiece on top of each of the cupcakes!
  6. Enjoy while playing board games! And don’t forget not to eat the pieces.

Aliens / Prometheus Cupcake Recipe

Gummy worm alien cupcakes

For our ALIENS / PROMETHEUS party themed episode of Maybe Wil Wheaton Will Show Up, we cooked up a batch of Alien cupcakes to resemble how the aliens burst out of people’s stomachs with runny blood frosting. These were a big hit at our Aliens party. Mmmm, appetizing AND morbid.

Cake mix
Eggs, vegetable oil, whatever it says on the back of your particular cake mix box
Gummy worms
Red food coloring
Powdered sugar

  1. Bake the cupcakes by following the directions on the back of your yellow cake batter box (or however you usually make cupcakes if you bake from scratch).
  2. When the cupcakes are done baking, allow them to cool slightly, then use a fork to make an indentation in the center of the cupcake.
  3. Stick half of the gummy worm into the indentation so that the other half is sticking out like the alien.
  4. Make royal icing by mixing in a small bowl the powdered sugar, milk, and red food coloring. WARNING: Add milk VERY gradually as it will easily become too runny.
  5. Drizzle the red icing on in a blood pattern and enjoy!

Smaug’s Gold Cocktail Recipe (The Hobbit)

Smaug's gold rush cocktail with bourbon and lemons

In our HOBBIT PARTY themed episode of Maybe Wil Wheaton Will Show Up, we made a summer cocktail called the Gold Rush, and called it “Smaug’s Gold.” Smaug’s the dragon. Get it? Anyways, it was very tasty. Here’s the recipe!

  • Bourbon
  • Honey
  • Lemon juice / lemons
  • Ice

  1. Mix 1 part honey to 1 part hot water to make honey syrup.
  2. Pour 1 part honey syrup, 2 parts bourbon, and 1 part lemon juice into a cocktail shaker (or a cup if you don’t have one).
  3. Shake well, pour into your glass, and drink up!

The golden color of this drink is very attractive and probably could be used for a number of dragon-themed things, but Smaug’s Gold just has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
